Field Note 02

Awareness Changed Before the Energy Did

The energy was getting my attention. Awareness was allowing me to look.

By the time energy became one of the most noticeable parts of my practice, something important had already been changing for quite a while.

My awareness.

I didn’t understand it that way at the time.

I had been meditating for a long period before Kundalini became part of my experience. During those earlier months, I was learning to sit longer, become still, notice what was happening internally and remain with things without immediately needing to do something about them.

None of that felt like preparation for energy work. I wasn’t trying to prepare for anything.

I was meditating.

Looking back though… I think something fundamental was developing.

I was learning how to notice.

Before the energy

When stronger energetic experiences eventually began, they were difficult to miss.

There was movement. Pressure. Vibration. Activity through the spine and crown. Experiences that were very different from what meditation had originally been for me.

Kundalini gave me a name and a possible framework for some of what was happening.

Yet another question eventually became more interesting to me…

Why was I able to notice so much within it?

I could recognize where something was occurring. I could notice whether it moved. I could sometimes distinguish its direction. I could remain with an experience long enough to see whether it changed.

Eventually, what initially felt like one broad category of energy began separating into different kinds of experience.

That ability hadn’t appeared overnight.

The energy was getting my attention.

Awareness was allowing me to look.

The resolution changed

Over time, my internal environment became increasingly differentiated.

Crown activity didn’t feel the same as activity around the brow. Movement through the spine was different from stillness. Pressure was different from vibration. An emotional atmosphere could be distinguished from the thoughts moving through it.

Sometimes several of these things could be present together.

Earlier in my life, much of that may simply have registered as:

Something feels different.

With greater awareness, the resolution changed.

I could begin asking:

Where is it?

Is it moving?

What happens if I leave it alone?

Does attention change it?

Have I felt this before?

Can I recognize it again?

I still don’t know how much of what I eventually noticed was genuinely new and how much had simply become visible to me.

I don’t think there’s a clean way to know that.

The more useful discovery was that my ability to recognize had changed.

Then Reiki entered

Reiki came later.

By then I already had a relationship with meditation, Kundalini and an increasingly active internal environment.

At first, Reiki gave me new ways of working with that territory.

There were techniques to learn. Symbols. Intentions. Different ways of approaching energy.

All of that mattered.

Over time though… something else became apparent.

As my awareness became more refined, my Reiki practice changed with it.

I could work with something because I could recognize it. I could notice differences that gave the same technique a different context.

Sometimes the important development wasn’t learning another thing to do.

It was becoming capable of seeing more clearly what was already happening.

That realization stayed with me.

Recognition before relationship

Years later, this became one of the quieter ideas underneath Arrival Field.

Recognition comes early.

Before I can develop a relationship with something internally, I first have to notice that it’s there.

Before I can return to something, I have to recognize it when it appears again.

And before I decide what an experience means, there can be value in simply becoming familiar with what is actually happening.

That posture grew directly from my own experience.

Meditation developed awareness. Awareness changed recognition. Kundalini gave that recognition extraordinary territory to encounter. Reiki gave me additional ways of participating with it.

And years later, Arrival Field gave me a way of understanding why that sequence mattered.

Something I still wonder about

Even now, this question hasn’t gone away.

When I discover something internally that seems new, I sometimes wonder…

Is this actually new?

Or have I become capable of recognizing something that was previously too quiet, too blended together, or simply outside the resolution of my awareness?

I don’t always know.

And perhaps knowing isn’t necessary immediately.

Sometimes noticing is enough.

Because one of the deepest changes I’ve experienced through years of practice hasn’t simply been experiencing more.

It has been becoming capable of noticing more within the experience already here.

And that leaves me with a question I think reaches well beyond energy work…

What has become visible to you only because you’ve learned how to notice it?
