Rib Hug

A place of contact just below the chest

Rib Hug is one of five named Field Forms. The arms cross gently and the hands meet the ribs just below the chest. The contact offers a bodily place to notice while allowing your awareness to remain with what is already present.

The forearms cross in front of the body, with each hand resting on the ribs on the opposite side. The hands can settle wherever contact feels comfortable. There is no need to squeeze or hold yourself tightly.

Find the Position

Cross your arms comfortably and let your hands rest on the opposite sides of your ribs, in the space just below your chest. Let the weight of your hands provide the contact without adding pressure.

If you are already in a crossing, the contact can accompany what you are noticing. You do not need to leave that awareness to look for a particular feeling in your hands or ribs.

If you came to this page on its own, you may spend a moment noticing the contact, then allow your hands to rest. You can adjust the position, use only one hand, or leave space between your hands and your body if that is more comfortable.

Staying With Contact

In my own practice, once my hands are in place, I briefly notice the feeling tone where they meet my ribs. That contact can become a point from which I recognize what is happening internally.

Your experience may be different. The Form does not need to create a particular sensation or change what is happening. If the position causes pain, numbness, dizziness, distress, fatigue, or strain, ease it or let your hands rest.
